Vol. 550 No. 4

Written Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

Tony Killeen

Ceist:

478 Mr. Killeen asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the position regarding the Milltown Malbay-Spanish Point sewage scheme. [8890/02]

The Milltown Malbay sewerage scheme was eighth on the list of water and sewerage schemes submitted by Clare County Council in response to my Department's request to local authorities to undertake fresh assessments of the needs for capital works in their areas and to prioritise their proposals on the basis of the assessments. A scheme for Spanish Point was not among the proposals listed by the council. The priority lists were taken into account in the framing of the Water Services Investment Programme 2000-2002, announced in July 2000. Given this position regarding the prioritisation of both schemes, the level of competing demand and the limited funding available, it has not been possible to include either scheme in the programme.
