494 Mr. B. Smith asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the position regarding the proposal to provide a new fire station at Virginia, County Cavan; when this project will proceed to the next stage; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [9239/02]
I issued approval in principle in July 2000 to Cavan County Council's proposal for the provision of a new fire station at Virginia. The further advancement of this project is under consideration in my Department in the context of the council's overall fire stations building programme. In this connection, during my term of office I have approved the following Cavan County Council projects: a new two bay fire station which was completed at Bailieborough in 2001; a further new station which is currently under construction at Dowra; and a proposed new fire station at Cootehill currently proceeding to tender stage.
All these stations are being grant-aided in full by my Department.
