Vol. 550 No. 4

Written Answers. - Birth Certificates.

Bernard J. Durkan

Ceist:

591 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if a birth certificate which was submitted by a person (details supplied) in County Kildare more than three years ago is still in his Department's keeping; when same will be returned to this person; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [8597/02]

A search of the family's general immigration file, which was opened when the person referred to and his family arrived in the State in 1997, has not uncovered any original birth documents, although a photostat copy of a translated birth document for the individual concerned was on that file. There is no indication on that file that an original birth document was ever received. Applications for naturalisation from the parents of the person concerned, which were received in November 2000, are being processed at the present time. These files were also exam ined and no original birth documents of the person concerned were found.
