Vol. 550 No. 4

Written Answers. - Asylum Seekers.

Brendan Howlin

Ceist:

606 Mr. Howlin asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform when a decision will be made regarding the right to live and work in Ireland as the spouse of an Irish person for a person (details supplied); if withdrawal of this person's application for asylum would facilitate favourable consideration of this person's application for permission to seek employment here as the spouse of an Irish national; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [8884/02]

The person in question's application for permission to remain as the spouse of an Irish national remains under consideration in my Department. Withdrawal of the applicant's application for asylum would not have any bearing on my Department's consideration in this regard.
