Vol. 550 No. 4

Written Answers. - Abandoned Cars.

Tony Gregory

Ceist:

641 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the policy and powers of the Gardaí when a complaint is received that a car, with a registration number, is abandoned in a residential area and a request is made by local residents that the vehicle be removed before it is vandalised. [9531/02]

I am informed by the Garda authorities that it is the responsibility of the local authorities to collect and destroy abandoned cars. I am further informed that where such a car has been officially reported as stolen, or if it is committing an offence under the road traffic acts, the Garda will arrange for its removal.
