Vol. 550 No. 4

Written Answers. - Sports Capital Programme.

Phil Hogan

Ceist:

657 Mr. Hogan asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation the number of applications his Department received in respect of County Kilkenny under the 2002 sports capital programme; the amount of grant sought in each case; when his Department will be in a position to announce grant assistance in respect of these applications; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [8947/02]

The sports capital programme for 2002 was advertised on 25 and 26 November 2001 with a closing date of 4 January 2002 for the receipt of completed applications. In excess of 1,350 applications were received before the closing date, including 30 from County Kilkenny, requesting a total amount of grant assistance of €5.6 million.

All applications are currently being evaluated against the programme's assessment criteria, which are outlined in the guidelines, terms and conditions of the programme. I intend to announce the grant allocations for the programme as soon as possible after the assessment process has been completed.

Details of the County Kilkenny applications follow as requested:

Ceist:

658 Mr. M. Higgins asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation if his Department has received an application for funding under the 2002 sports capital programme from Sligo Northside Community Sport and Leisure Company for the development of a multi-purpose sports centre in the northward area of Sligo city; when a decision will be made on the application; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [8968/02]

Under the national lottery funded sports capital programme, funding is allocated to sporting, voluntary and community organisations for the provision of sporting and recreational facilities. The 2002 programme was advertised on 25 and 26 November 2001 with a closing date of 4 January 2002 for the receipt of completed applications. An application was not received from an organisation as named by the Deputy.

It is intended that the 2003 sports capital programme will be advertised towards the end of this year and it will be open to the organisation to apply for funding at that time should it so wish.
