Vol. 550 No. 4

Written Answers. - Sports Funding.

Conor Lenihan

Ceist:

670 Mr. C. Lenihan asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation the various grants, current and capital, allocated under the Government's young people's services and facilities fund to community and voluntary organisations in Dublin 24, Dublin 12 and Dublin 6W since 1997; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [9114/02]

The young people's facilities and services fund, YPFSF, was established in 1998 as part of the Government's overall strategy to tackle drug misuse. The fund aims to assist in the development of youth facilities, including sport and recreational facilities, and services in disadvantaged areas where a significant drug problem exists or has the potential to develop. The objective of the fund is to attract "at risk" young people in disadvantaged areas into these facilities and activities and divert them away from the dangers of substance abuse.

The main focus of the YPFSF has been on the local drugs task force areas where integrated plans were prepared on the basis of detailed guidelines agreed by the Cabinet committee on social inclusion.

With regard to the information sought by the Deputy in relation to the postal districts of Dublin 6W, Dublin 12 and Dublin 24, it should be noted that local drugs task forces operate in the Dublin 12 and Tallaght areas and are based on the partnership areas that had been previously identified for local development purposes. They are not, therefore, coterminous with the postal districts identified. Dublin 6W is not part of a task force area and, therefore, did not receive funding under the YPFSF.

The Dublin 12 and Tallaght LDTF areas, coterminous with the KWCD and the Tallaght Partnership areas respectively, have received the following allocations to date:
