Vol. 550 No. 4

Written Answers. - School Staffing.

Jim Higgins

Ceist:

704 Mr. Higgins (Mayo) asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will accede to the request from schools (details supplied) in County Mayo for the appointment of full-time support teachers. [8465/02]

Enda Kenny

Ceist:

775 Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for Education and Science if he has received an application for sanction of a further full time remedial/learning support teacher to service three clustered school arrangements (details supplied) in County Mayo; if so, if this application has been examined; his views on whether a further remedial learning support teacher appointment is necessary based on the present level of service operating between the three schools involved; if approval will be given in this regard; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [8811/02]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 704 and 775 together.

The schools in question currently have the services of a learning support teacher on a shared basis. The case made by the schools for an increased level of learning support teacher service has been noted by my Department. The needs of these schools will be taken fully into account in the event of additional learning support teacher posts becoming available for distribution.
