Vol. 550 No. 5

Written Answers. - Garda Stations.

Bernard Allen

Ceist:

150 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform when the renovation of Bishopstown Garda station, County Cork, will take place. [9574/02]

I am informed by the Garda authorities that necessary remedial works have recently been sanctioned for Bishopstown Garda station. These works will cost in the region of €40,000 and are expected to commence shortly.

Moreover, when these works are completed the station will be repainted. In addition, the Office of Public Works has been requested to carry out a feasibility study on the station to ascertain what further works are needed to bring it fully up to the required standard.

Ceist:

151 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform when renovations will be carried out on McCurtain Street Garda station, Cork City. [9575/02]

Building and major renovation/refurbishment works at Garda stations are carried out in conformity with priorities decided on in consultation with the Garda authorities, the Garda staff associations and the Office of Public Works. Commencement of any project is dependant on a number of factors, including the availability of funding and other resources, and overall priorities within the Garda building programme.

Accordingly, I cannot indicate at this time when the needs of McCurtain Street will be comprehensively addressed. I am informed, however, by the Garda authorities that the internal redecoration of the station has been sanctioned and is expected to commence soon.
