Vol. 551 No. 2

Written Answers. - Grant Payments.

Paul Connaughton

Ceist:

183 Mr. Connaughton asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development when extensification premium for 2001 will issue to a person (details supplied) in County Galway; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [9774/02]

The person named was paid €3,340.11 under the 2001 area-based compensatory allowance scheme on 24 September 2001 in respect of 37.58 hectares of more severely handicapped land at €88.88 per hectare. This compares with his average headage payment of €2413.07 under the old animal-based headage schemes in the three years 1998 to 2000 inclusive. The person named applied for premium on 35 animals under the 2001 suckler cow premium scheme. Two of the animals applied on were subsequently moved out of the herd without notification of their movement to the cattle movement monitoring system database. My Department contacted the person named on 25 March 2002 and advised him to forward the details of these movements to the CMMS as a matter of urgency. As soon as this has been done, his application will be further processed for payment.

The person named is participating in 2001 extensification premium under the census system. Under the terms of the protocol on direct payments to farmers, payment of this premium is not scheduled to commence until June 2002. The person named submitted no applications under the 2001 special beef premium scheme.
