Vol. 551 No. 2

Written Answers. - Hospital Services.

Michael Ring

Ceist:

283 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Health and Children the level of funding given to Mayo General Hospital, Castlebar, County Mayo, for the provision of orthopaedic services. [10033/02]

As I stated in my reply to a question on 20 March 2002, I provided a non-capital determination of approximately €650 million to the Western Health Board in 2002. As part of this allocation I provided more than €9 million for the continued development of acute hospital services in the region. There has been a major capital development, phase 2, at Mayo General Hospital in recent years which provides for enhanced services at the hospital. A sum of €3.9 million was provided to the Western Health Board this year for the continued commissioning of the new facilities provided under the Phase 2 capital development.

The detailed use of this funding and the phasing of developments at the hospital are matters for the Western Health Board. I have asked the chief executive officer of the health board to reply to the Deputy directly in relation to the detailed queries raised in the question and I understand a reply is being prepared and will issue shortly.

Michael Ring

Ceist:

284 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Health and Children the timeframe intended for the commencement of orthopaedic services at Mayo General Hospital, Castlebar, County Mayo. [10034/02]

The question of developing orthopaedic services at Mayo General Hospital is a matter for the Western Health Board. Accordingly, my Department has asked the chief executive officer of the board to provide the Deputy with the information requested directly.

John Bruton

Ceist:

285 Mr. J. Bruton asked the Minister for Health and Children the reason a person (details supplied) in County Meath had to ensure that correct medication was provided, from stocks which they had at home, whilst this person was being treated in James Connolly Memorial Hospital as a patient; the reason the family now has to travel each day to the hospital to confirm that satisfactory medication is being provided for the person; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [10035/02]

Responsibility for the provision of hospital services to residents of County Meath rests with the North-Eastern Health Board. My Department has, therefore, asked the chief executive officer of the board to investigate this case and to reply to the Deputy directly.
