Vol. 551 No. 2

Written Answers. - Health Board Services.

Conor Lenihan

Ceist:

292 Mr. C. Lenihan asked the Minister for Health and Children his plans for the development of buildings and services at the Millbrook Health Centre, St. Dominic's Road, Tallaght; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [10072/02]

The provision of health centres and health services, including the prioritisation, planning and development of such centres and services to meet the needs of local communities within its functional area, is a matter for the relevant health board or the Eastern Regional Health Authority. In the case of the Tallaght area this responsibility rests with the Eastern Regional Health Authority. In terms of services, the Eastern Regional Health Authority has indicated that the Millbrook Lawns Health Centre provides a wide range of services including medical, public health nursing, social work services, speech and langu age therapy, dental services, community welfare and addiction services.

I have been further advised by the authority that the redevelopment of Millbrook Lawn Health Centre has been identified as a major capital project for the South-Western Area Health Board which plans to develop a modern health centre on the site of the existing centre which would better serve the needs of the area. The authority has also indicated that detailed briefs for this project have been finalised and that the appointment of a design team is at an advanced stage. The progress of this project within the funding available under the national development plan is a matter for the Eastern Regional Health Authority.
