Vol. 551 No. 2

Written Answers. - Psychological Service.

Liam Aylward

Ceist:

471 Mr. Aylward asked the Minister for Education and Science, further to Parliamentary Question No. 310 of 13 December 2001, the progress which has since been made to make the necessary services and resources available for a person (details supplied) in County Kilkenny; if he has satisfied himself that the needs of this per son are being adequately catered for; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [9715/02]

In February 2002, an official from my Department met the parents of the pupil in question to discuss how the child's needs could best be addressed in a school setting. A number of options were discussed in relation to a suitable placement for the child and it was agreed by the child's parents that they would reflect on these options. My Department is awaiting the parents response. As an interim measure and until the child in question is suitably placed, my Department has sanctioned 15 hours per week home tuition. I understand the child's parents have expressed satisfaction at the progress the child is making in response to the home tuition service.
