Vol. 551 No. 2

Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

Nora Owen

Ceist:

519 Mrs. Owen asked the Minister for Education and Science if, further to a reply he furnished on 2 May 2001, he has had further discussions with Fingal County Council regarding the provision of a site and the provision of a post-primary school in the Donabate area; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [10001/02]

The development plan for Donabate, referred to in my earlier reply, has not yet been completed by Fingal County Council. As soon as the plan is completed and a copy made available to my Department, a thorough assessment will be carried out to determine whether a post-primary school should be established in Donabate.

Dinny McGinley

Ceist:

520 Mr. McGinley asked the Minister for Education and Science the position regarding development of facilities at Sessiaghoneill national school, Ballybofey, County Donegal; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [10009/02]

The allocation for primary buildings in 2002 is €153.6 million, which is a record level of funding and demonstrates this Government's commitment to improving accommodation in primary schools. This is almost four times the previous Government's investment in 1997.

Due to the greatly increased level of activity in the primary buildings area since the Government came into office, there has been a substantial increase in the number of major building projects in construction and this has given rise to a record level of building and refurbishment activity.

The school referred to by the Deputy is being extended/refurbished as part of the Government's programme and is currently in architectural planning. The project will continue to the preparation of tender documents and the invitation of tenders, as soon as possible, under the expanded building programme.
