Vol. 551 No. 2

Written Answers. - Food Safety Authority.

Ceist:

62 Dr. Upton asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources the steps being taken to address the concerns expressed in the recent report from the EU Commission which found serious deficiencies in hygiene conditions at fish auction halls and processing centres; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [9901/02]

A comprehensive and timetabled action plan has been agreed between my Department and the Food Safety Authority of Ireland to address deficiencies identified in the report of the Commission's food and veterinary office. The action plan which has been forwarded to the Commission is in the process of implementation. Inspection and reporting procedures to ensure health and hygiene compliance by fish auction halls and processing establishments have been reviewed and overhauled.
