Vol. 551 No. 4

Written Answers. - Driving Licences.

Denis Naughten

Ceist:

161 Mr. Naughten asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if, further to Parliamentary Question No. 722 of 30 January 2002, his attention has been drawn to the fact that the insert for category W is not issued; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [10808/02]

Persons with EU category B – cars – entitlement on a driving licence are also licensed to drive vehicles in vehicle category W. In such instances the category W entitlement is not recorded on the licence. An insert is issued with the licence explaining the entitlement together with other information relating to the licence. Where the licence holder does not have entitlement to EU category B, entitlement to the national category W is recorded on the driving licence.

I am satisfied that motor taxation offices are complying with these arrangements. If the Deputy has specific knowledge that this has not applied in a particular case he can bring the matter to the attention of the motor taxation office concerned who will issue the insert or have the category W entitlement inserted on the licence as appropriate.
