Vol. 552 No. 1

Written Answers. - Defence Forces Property.

Ivor Callely

Ceist:

122 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Defence the current usage and occupancy of St. Bricin's Hospital; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [12044/02]

Minister for Defence (Mr. M. Smith): St. Bricin's Military Hospital currently provides limited inpatient accommodation, a full pharmacy service and a wide range of outpatient services for members of the Defence Forces. Outpatient services provided include primary care services, post hospital reviews, ophthalmology, psychiatry, physiotherapy, radiology, pathology and dental services, including periodontal treatment. The average bed occupancy for inpatients in St. Bricin's Military Hospital is eight. The average outpatient throughput is 485 patients per week. The hospital is not equipped, and would not have the staffing resources, to provide additional more sophisticated services, other than those provided at present.
