Vol. 552 No. 1

Written Answers. - Decentralisation Programme.

Deirdre Clune

Ceist:

260 Ms Clune asked the Minister for Finance his plans to decentralise a section of Government services to the Cork region; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [11954/02]

As the Deputy is aware, it has been decided that no decision in relation to a new programme of decentralisation will be taken in advance of the forthcoming general election. Work is, however, continuing in my Department with a view to enabling decisions to be taken shortly after the election. In that regard, consideration is being given to the Departments/offices which will be part of the new programme as well as to the centres to which they will relocate. While no decisions have yet been taken, the cases made for the inclusion of several centres in the Cork area will be fully considered as part of the deliberations which will precede a Government decision on the matter.
