Vol. 552 No. 1

Written Answers. - Speech Therapy Service.

Pat Carey

Ceist:

276 Mr. P. Carey asked the Minister for Health and Children if an assessment of the need for language and speech therapy for a person (details supplied) in Dublin 11 can be expedited given that this person will be unable to start primary schooling without intensive therapy support. [11049/02]

Responsibility for the provision of services to people with an intellectual disability and those with autism in the Dublin region rests with the Eastern Regional Health Authority. My Department has therefore asked the chief executive officer of the authority to investigate the matter raised by the Deputy and reply to him directly.

Ceist:

277 Mr. P. Carey asked the Minister for Health and Children when a person (details supplied) in Dublin 9 will be provided with speech and language therapy; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [11050/02]

The provision of health related services, including speech and language therapy, to people with physical and sensory disabilities is a matter for the Eastern Regional Health Authority and the health boards in the first instance. Accordingly, a copy of the Deputy's question has been referred to the chief executive officer of the Eastern Regional Health Authority with a request that he examine the matter and reply directly to the Deputy as a matter of urgency.

Question No. 278 answered with Question No. 268.
