Vol. 552 No. 1

Written Answers. - Audiology Services.

Nora Owen

Ceist:

327 Mrs. Owen asked the Minister for Health and Children if a pilot clinic has been established for people with tinnitus; the resources which have been made available to this pilot clinic; the number of people who have been treated there; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [11358/02]

The provision of services to persons with tinnitus is a matter for the Eastern Regional Health Authority, ERHA, and the health boards. I understand that the ERHA is currently undertaking a review of audiology services at primary, secondary and community care levels. A review group has been established with the goal of developing a comprehensive strategy for audiology services.

The report of the review group will provide valuable direction in relation to future policy discussions with regard to the development of audiology services and future strategies relating to such issues as the need for additional facilities for tinnitus sufferers. I understand that this review is at an advanced stage.
