I propose to answer Questions Nos. 442 and 443 together.

Allocations under the local improvements scheme are not determined on the basis of specific bids from local authorities, but rather in the context of the overall grant allocations for non-national roads and the number of LIS applications on hands in each county council. The 2002 allocation of €11.208 million represents an increase of 194% on the 1997 allocation of €3.809 million and 10% on the 2001 allocation of €10.158 million. Details of the 2002 local improvements scheme allocations, including the allocation for Wicklow County Council, are set out in the following table.
