Jack Wall

Ceist:

451 Mr. Wall asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if he has satisfied himself with the present arrangements in regard to issuing provisional licences; the cost to his Department of any contracts in regard to the issuing; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [11650/02]

Under the Road Traffic Act, 1961, and the Road Traffic (Licensing of Drivers) Regulations, 1999 to 2001, the issuing of provisional driving licences is a matter for the appropriate local licensing authority. There is no proposal to amend these arrangements which in general are operating satisfactorily.
