Vol. 552 No. 1

Written Answers. - Child Care Services.

Phil Hogan

Ceist:

524 Mr. Hogan asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform when a capital grant will be paid in respect of Muckalee community in County Kilkenny; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [10984/02]

As the Deputy is aware, my Department has been assigned the lead role in the development and co-ordination of child care services over the course of the national development plan. In this regard, the equal opportunities childcare programme, which is funded by both the European Union and the Exchequer, provides grant assistance to community based and not for profit organisations and private child care providers who meet the criteria set out in the programme. In September 2001, I approved a capital grant of €30,019 to Muckalee community playgroup, to assist the group to develop a facility with an outdoor play area. The next step in the process involves the completion of a contract by the group, which is administered on my Department's behalf by Area Development Management Limited. I have been informed by the childcare directorate of my Department that ADM has finalised the contract and expects to be in a position to complete the necessary formalities with the group shortly. Payment of the grant will begin shortly after a signed contract from the group is received by ADM.
