Vol. 552 No. 1

Written Answers. - Prison Medical Service.

Bernard Allen

Ceist:

527 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if he will make a statement on a situation where prison doctors are refusing to implement the computerisation of medical records until their grievances over pay and conditions are dealt with by his Department. [11063/02]

The Irish Medical Organisation has lodged a claim with the Prisons Service for a review of pay and conditions applicable under the terms of the prison medical officer common contract and negotiations in this regard are ongoing. I would be very concerned at a refusal to implement the computerisation of medical records. The Prisons Service has sought clarification of the position from the IMO and I do not wish to comment further until such clarification has been received.
