Vol. 552 No. 1

Written Answers. - Firearms Regulations.

Billy Timmins

Ceist:

551 Mr. Timmins asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform when he intends to return a single revolver which was taken from a person (details supplied) in County Wicklow under a temporary custodial order in 1972; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [11415/02]

The firearm belonging to the person referred to by the Deputy is held by the Garda authorities. The person wishing to sell the firearm, which is the subject of the 1972 order, outside the State may, on request to the local Garda, be granted an authorisation for the removal of the weapon to a point of exit from the State. In addition to an export licence which is required from my Department, the sale of the firearm is subject to the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment's control of exports regulations.
