Vol. 552 No. 1

Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

Trevor Sargent

Ceist:

687 Mr. Sargent asked the Minister for Education and Science the progress being made to locate a site for Scoil Boróimhe, currently using temporary accommodation at Fingallians G.A.A., Swords, County Dublin, serving a wide catchment area. [11278/02]

Joe Higgins

Ceist:

735 Mr. Higgins (Dublin West) asked the Minister for Education and Science if his Department will purchase a site on which a permanent school building can be constructed for Gaelscoil Bhoroimhe, Swords, County Dublin; and if so, the timeframe in this regard. [11507/02]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 687 and 735 together.

The position generally regarding site acquisition is that where such a development is considered necessary, arrangements are made by my Department to acquire the site. Purchase is subject to the availability of funding and the priority to be accorded to the project. In addition, my Department must be fully satisfied that the school's long-term viability is assured and permanent recognition must have been granted. An application for permanent recognition of the school in question is currently being examined in the planning section of my Department. The assessment of the school's application is nearing completion and the school authorities will be advised of the outcome shortly. The position regarding site acquisition and the provision of permanent accommodation will be considered by my Department in the event that permanent recognition is granted and in light of available capital resources.
