Vol. 552 No. 1

Written Answers. - School Staffing.

Brian O'Shea

Ceist:

708 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will allocate an additional assistant teacher to Dunhill School, County Waterford (details supplied); and if he will make a statement on the matter. [11374/02]

The staffing of a primary school is determined by reference to the enrolment of the school on 30 September of the previous school year. The actual number of mainstream posts sanctioned is determined by reference to a staffing schedule, which is reviewed annually following discussions with the education partners. The enrolment in this school was 115 pupils on 30 September 2001, which warrants a staffing of a principal plus three mainstream class teachers for the 2002-2003 school year. An official of my Department will visit the school shortly and report on the staffing situation. The board of management of the school will be notified of the position when the report is examined.
