Vol. 552 No. 1

Written Answers. - Psychological Service.

Michael Creed

Ceist:

730 Mr. Creed asked the Minister for Education and Science if his Department will arrange for an immediate psychological assessment for a person (details supplied) in County Cork with a view to providing for resource hours for this person. [11475/02]

The development plan for the National Educational Psychological Service Agency – NEPS – envisages that at least 21 educational psychologists will be appointed to Cork City and County. The current establishment is 10.5 psychologists. It is not possible at present to include the school attended by named pupil in the list of those served by NEPS. However, I understand that a psychologist from a voluntary body under the aegis of the Southern Health Board has assessed him. The school can apply for appropriate resource hours for him on the basis of the findings and recommendations in the psychologist's report.
