Vol. 552 No. 1

Written Answers. - Special Educational Needs.

Willie Penrose

Ceist:

738 Mr. Penrose asked the Minister for Education and Science if an application has been made for additional after school care, such as one to one tuition for a number of days each week on behalf of a person (details supplied) in County Westmeath; if he will ensure this is attended to without delay; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [11519/02]

I have been informed that my Department has no record of an application for the type of support referred to by the Deputy. My Department operates a scheme of home tuition which provides compensatory instruction for students who, because of serious medical conditions or other difficulties, are unable to attend school or are absent from school for prolonged periods. I understand the pupil in question is currently attending school and is receiving resource teacher support. If an application for increased educational support for the child in question is received in my Department the matter will be given full consideration.
