Vol. 552 No. 1

Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

Gerry Reynolds

Ceist:

815 Mr. G. Reynolds asked the Minister for Education and Science if funding will be provided in 2002 for the building of a new school at Creevelea, County Leitrim. [11920/02]

The allocation for primary buildings in 2002 is €153.6 million, which is a record level of funding and demonstrates the Government's commitment to improving the accommodation situation in primary schools. This is almost four times the previous Government's investment in 1997. Because of the greatly increased level of activity in the primary buildings area since the Government came into office, there has been a substantial increase in the number of major and minor building projects in construction and this has given rise to a record level of building and refurbishment activity.

My Department expects to be in a position during this year to give detailed consideration to an application from Creevelea national school, County Leitrim, for improved accommodation as part of the expanded building programme.

Emmet Stagg

Ceist:

816 Mr. Stagg asked the Minister for Education and Science if, in view of the fact that planning permission was granted for the required extension to Scoil na Mainistriach national school, Celbridge, County Kildare on 9 April 2002, he will now sanction approval of the capital expenditure required in order to allow the project to proceed without delay; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [11921/02]

The allocation for primary buildings in 2002 is €153.6 million, which is a record level of funding and demonstrates this Government's commitment to improving accommodation in primary schools. This is almost four times the previous Government's investment in 1997.

Due to the greatly increased level of activity in the primary buildings area since this Government came into office, there has been a substantial increase in the number of major building projects in construction and this has given rise to a record level of building and refurbishment activity.

Scoil na Mainistriach national school is being extended-refurbished as part of the Government's programme and is currently in architec tural planning. The project will continue to the invitation of tenders, as soon as possible, under the expanded building programme.
