Vol. 552 No. 2

Written Answers. - Mobile Telephony.

Michael Creed

Ceist:

101 Mr. Creed asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if he will bring forward workable regulations regarding use of mobile phones in cars. [12146/02]

Regulations were made on 19 March prohibiting the use of hand held phones while driving. Apart from representations about the importance on operational grounds of permitting the use of two-way radio communications equipment by drivers of fire and ambulance services vehicles, my Department has not received requests to amend these regulations. The issues raised on behalf of the emergency services in question are being examined at present in my Department.
