Vol. 552 No. 3

Written Answers. - Departmental Bodies.

Ruairí Quinn

Ceist:

44 Mr. Quinn asked the Minister for Finance the progress made to date by the implementation group on the report of the Commission on Public Service Pensions; the number of occasions on which the group has met; when he expects the group to report; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [12411/02]

The implementation working group, comprising representatives from the public service unions and relevant Government Departments, has been established. At its first meeting on 10 January 2002 the working group decided to establish two sub-groups. The main sub-group has met on four occasions to date, and has a further two meetings scheduled for May and June. The working group hopes to be in a position to report later in the year.

Parallel structures – subject to the same time frame and remit – have been established in the case of the Garda Síochána and the Defence Forces, and the first meeting of each has recently taken place. My Department is also finalising arrangements for the involvement of pensioners in the working group process and a preliminary meeting was held with pensioner group representatives in this regard on 11 December 2001.
