Vol. 553 No. 3

Request to move Adjournment of Dáil under Standing Order 31.

Before coming to the Order of Business, I propose to deal with a number of notices under Standing Order 31 concerning three topics that I propose to deal with in the order in which they were submitted.

I request the adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 31 to address the serious crisis in farming and horticulture caused by the unprecedented and unseasonal rainfall in recent weeks which is jeopardising 1,500 jobs and to consider what measures by way of financial support can be put in place to prevent many more growers and farmers from being put out of business.

Having considered the matter fully, I do not consider it to be in order in accordance with Standing Order 31.

It is a very urgent matter.

I seek the adjournment of Dáil Éireann under Standing Order 31 to raise a matter of significant importance, namely the policy of banking institutions to withdraw from rural towns, in particular the decision of Allied Irish Bank to close its branch in Killenaule, County Tipperary, on Tuesdays and Wednesdays with effect from 18 June 2002.

Having considered the matter fully, I do not consider it to be in order in accordance with Standing Order 31.

I seek the adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 31 to raise a matter of national importance, namely the significant fall in tourist numbers resulting in serious financial hardship for operators in the tourism industry and the inevitable loss of jobs in this sector.

Having considered the matter fully, I do not consider it to be in order in accordance with Standing Order 31.
