68 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Finance the absolute amount of interest on public debt paid by the Exchequer and the percentage which this represents of the outstanding capital in each of the past four years; and the forecast for 2002. [14099/02]

The absolute amount of interest on public debt, that is national debt, paid by the Exchequer in each of the past four years, and the percentage which this represented of the outstanding capital is as follows:

The budget figure for the absolute amount of interest on the national debt paid by the Exchequer in 2002 is €1,974 million. This figure represents 5.5% of the opening national debt balance for 2002.
