Vol. 553 No. 3

Written Answers. - Youth Work Act.

David Stanton

Ceist:

94 Mr. Stanton asked the Minister for Education and Science the activities and actions which have taken place, to date, as a result of the enactment of the recent Youth Work Bill, 2001; the further plans and structures which are to be put in place; the timescale for same; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [14047/02]

My predecessor signed the commencement order for certain sections of the Youth Work Act, 2001, on 22 April 2002. The main purpose of the order was to enable the new National Youth Work Advisory Committee to be appointed. This committee has in turn appointed a sub-committee to consider the issues involved with the implementation of the various sections of the Act. This sub-committee will report in due course to the National Youth Work Advisory Committee. Consultations will also have to take place with the various interest groups. It is not possible, therefore, to be definitive at this stage regarding the implementation of the Act in terms of structures and timescale.
