Vol. 553 No. 7

Written Answers. - Strategy Statements.

John Bruton

Ceist:

230 Mr. J. Bruton asked the Minister for Health and Children if he has reviewed the strat egy statement for his Department for 2001-04 prepared for the previous Government; and if he proposes to make alterations to it in view of his own personal priorities or the contents of the new programme for Government. [15281/02]

Work on my Department's strategy statement to 2004 is currently at an advanced stage. The national health strategy – Quality and Fairness: A Health System for You – outlines a programme of development and reform for the health services for the next seven to ten years.

The Agreed Programme for Government re-affirms the Government's commitment to the national health strategy as the blueprint to provide a high quality and accessible health service for all. My Department's objectives are determined by the principles and goals underpinning the national health strategy. In reviewing the business planning process with my Department over the next few weeks I will also be ensuring that the high level objectives and strategies of my Department encompass any changes arising from the Agreed Programme for Government.
