Vol. 553 No. 7

Written Answers. - Births to Non-National Parents.

John Bruton

Ceist:

264 Mr. J. Bruton asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform his plans to review the number of applications from non-nationals to remain here on the basis of parentage of an Irish-born child; and his plans to initiate all party discussions on the issue. [15293/02]

In line with An Agreed Programme for Government and in light of the circumstances which have evolved in relation to claims for leave to remain in the State on the basis of parentage of a child who is an Irish citizen, my Department is keeping this issue under very careful and ongoing review. I will initiate cross-party discussions on this issue in due course.
