Vol. 553 No. 7

Written Answers. - Programme for Government.

John Bruton

Ceist:

304 Mr. J. Bruton asked the Minister for Social and Family Affairs if she has reviewed the strategy statement for her Department for 2001-04 prepared for the previous Government; and if she proposes to make alterations to it in view of her own personal priorities or the contents of the new programme for Government. [15301/02]

In accordance with the provisions of the Public Service Management Act, 1997, the Secretary-General is required to submit a strategy statement to me within six months of the date of my appointment. This will outline my Department's key objectives and performance indicators relating to the achievement of those objectives. I am at present discussing the matter with the Secretary-General and other senior officials with view to producing a statement which reflects the responsibilities of my Department. It is intended to build on the significant progress which has already been achieved to date and to provide an opportunity to re-examine the Department's existing mission statement, objectives, outputs and related strategies. These discussions are being informed by the programme for Government, the Department's current statement of strategy – People, Policies, Services – which was published in November 2002, our customer action plan and our internal customer service plan.
