Vol. 553 No. 7

Written Answers. - Cross Departmental Team Report.

Trevor Sargent

Ceist:

22 Mr. Sargent asked the Taoiseach the progress made by the crossdepartmental team on housing infrastructure and public private partnerships; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [14523/02]

The Crossdepartmental Team on Housing, Infrastructure and Public Private Partnerships published its Fourth Annual Progress Report on 10 April, copies of which are available in the Oireachtas Library. The report gives details of the progress made on infrastructure related issues during the past twelve months.

The team will continue to meet regularly in supporting a Cabinet Committee in the delivery of priority national infrastructure and its most recent meeting will take place later today.

During 2001, the team continued to focus on the key priorities originally identified for its work: the core national roads network and public transport in Dublin.

Excellent progress was made in these areas during the year, notwithstanding the continued effects of capacity constraints. The team continued to work with the implementation agencies and lead Departments to monitor progress and maintain momentum on the NDP objectives.

The team also focused on emerging priorities, including energy infrastructure, waste management and broadband telecommunications. These will continue to receive sustained attention during 2002. The working group's report on broadband telecommunications was accepted by Government in March 2002 as the basis for a Government action plan with three and five year targets.

The working group will meet this afternoon to progress the action plan. It will work with the new Department of Communications, the Marine and Natural Resources throughout this year to ensure co-ordinated and timely implementation of the plan.

Question No. 23 resubmitted.
