Ceist:

51 Ms Burton asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs the main findings of the report of the Ireland Aid Review Committee; if it is intended to implement the recommendations in the report; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [14831/02]

The Report of the Ireland Aid Review Committee was published on 27 March and copies have been placed in the Dáil Library. The executive summary which precedes the main body of the report provides an overview of its key recommendations. The full text of the Report is available on the web site of the Department of Foreign Affairs.

The recommendations have been accepted by the Government and steps are currently being taken to implement them. These include, inter alia, the forging of new strategic and financial relationships with NGOs and Irish missionaries; the establishment of a new advisory board representing key stakeholders to oversee the programme and commission research; the consideration of possible new programme countries; enhancing support for good governance, democracy and human rights; strengthening staffing and management structures; and enhancing public ownership of the programme.
