1464 Mr. Haughey asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if he made an announcement in 2002 on the availability of housing grants to ill or incapacitated people to enable them purchase accommodation; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15635/02]
I assume that the Question refers to changes to the disabled persons grants scheme which were announced in Budget 2001 and which provided for the payment of a grant, of up to €12,700, where a new house is provided to meet the needs of a disabled person. This scheme is operated by local authorities and the necessary regulations and administrative arrangements were notified to local authorities in December 2001.
