Vol. 554 No. 5

Written Answers. - Water Quality.

John McGuinness

Ceist:

1476 Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if his Department is in receipt of an application for funding to upgrade the water supply infrastructure in Kilkenny City and its environs; and if the application will be given priority in view of the poor quality of the present supply. [15873/02]

The upgrading of the Kilkenny City water supply is included in my Department's water services investment programme, 2002-2004, as a scheme to start construction in 2004, at an estimated cost of €8.25 million. A brief for the appointment of consultants to prepare a preliminary report for the scheme has been submitted to my Department by Kilkenny County Council for approval. The preliminary report will be further considered on receipt of details requested from the council by my Department in relation to outcome of the works undertaken under the Kilkenny city water conservation project.
