Vol. 554 No. 5

Written Answers. - Regional Assemblies.

Martin Ferris

Ceist:

1524 Mr. Ferris asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if he will consider expanding the membership of the regional assemblies to allow greater participation from the community sector. [16442/02]

I have no proposals to change the composition of the regional assemblies on the lines mentioned. Membership of regional assemblies comprises county and city councillors, who are also members of their constituent regional authorities, thus providing linkages between the different levels of local government. However, in common with the other social partners, the community sector does have a role in the work of the regional assemblies through its membership of the assemblies' operational programme monitoring committees.
