Ceist:

1634 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs the solicitors or barristers who were appointed since July 1997 as members or chairpersons of any board or committee or other body, advisers, consultants, or as holders of any other position or office other than judicial office under the aegis of or in his Department; the name of the person in each case; if they are solicitors or barristers; the position to which they were appointed; their date of appointment; the date they ceased to hold the position if applicable; the remuneration paid since July 1997; and if the holding of particular legal qualifications or experience was a requirement for the position. [17259/02]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 1633 and 1634 together.

In relation to the question of appointments to boards, agencies or committees operating under the aegis of my Department, I refer the Deputy to my reply to Deputy Quinn, Parliamentary Question No. 654, reference No. 13722/02, of 18 June. The only appointments to date additional to those listed in that reply are as follows: Coiste Comhairleach an Aire i dtaobh Tuarascáil Chomisiún na Gaeltachta.

This committee was formed in September and the following were appointed: Liam Ó Cuinneagáin Uasal, Údarás na Gaeltachta; Pádraig Ó hAoláin Uasal, Údarás na Gaeltachta; Seosamh Mac Donncha Uasal, Foras na Gaeilge; Barney Ó Gallchóir Uasal, MFG; Pól Ó Gallchóir Uasal, TG4; Tomás Mac an Iomaire Uasal, Raidió na Gaeltachta; Fionbarr Ó Tuama Uasal, Department of Education and Science; Seán Ó Drisceoil Uasal, Conradh na Gaeilge; Maire Uí Ainín Uasal, Comhchoiste Réamscolaíochta; Cathy Ní Ghoill Uasal, Comhdháil Oileáin na hÉireann; Gerry Kearney, Ard Rúnaí, Dept of Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs; and Séamus Mac Giolla Chomhaill Uasal, and Beirtí Ó hAinmhire Uasal, Seosamh Ó hÁgmhaill Uasal, Dept of Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs.
As stated in the response to the Deputy's Parliamentary Question No. 389, reference No. 9801/02 of 26 March, when making appointments to the boards under their aegis, Ministers seek to appoint members of the public who have a broad range of experience that will enable them to carry out the work of the board. Within this context my Department's records indicate that the appointees to bodies or positions under its aegis since that date possessing qualifications of the type described by the Deputy are as follows:
