Vol. 554 No. 5

Written Answers. - Social Welfare Appeals.

Michael Ring

Ceist:

1661 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Social and Family Affairs when a one parent family allowance appeal will be finalised for a person (details supplied) in County Mayo; and when a date for an oral hearing will be scheduled. [15726/02]

Payment of one parent family payment to the person concerned was discontinued by a deciding officer when, following a review of his means, it was decided that the person's means exceeded the statutory limit. He appealed against this decision to the SWA office. The case was referred to an appeals officer who, having examined all the evidence in the case, has disallowed the appeal. Notification of the decision has issued to the person concerned.

Under social welfare legislation decisions in relation to claims must be made by deciding officers and appeals officers. These officers are statutorily appointed and I have no role in regard to making such decisions.

Question No. 1662 answered with Question No. 1652.
