Vol. 554 No. 5

Written Answers. - Social Welfare Benefits.

Michael Ring

Ceist:

1692 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Social and Family Affairs when disability benefit will be restored to a person (details supplied) in County Mayo. [16224/02]

The payment of disability benefit to the person concerned was discontinued from 28 July following an examination by a medical assessor of the Department who expressed the view that she was capable of work.

The person has appealed this decision to the independent social welfare appeals office and in the context of her appeal she will be examined by another medical assessor. She will be notified when this examination is arranged.

Under social welfare legislation decisions in relation to claims must be made by deciding officers and appeals officers. These officers are statutorily appointed and I have no role in regard to making such decisions.

Question No. 1693 answered with Question No. 1649.
