Ceist:346 Mr. Naughten asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if he will address the staffing shortage in the REP scheme section of his Department; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [16806/02]

There are a small number of vacancies to be filled in the REP scheme work area. My Department is making arrangements to have these filled and it is expected that most of these vacancies will be filled shortly.
I am aware, that due to the level of the workloads, staff shortages have arisen in some of the busier farm development services offices around the country. This matter is being examined at present. As an interim measure officers are being transferred from other areas on a temporary basis to alleviate the situation.
