Vol. 554 No. 5

Written Answers. - Departmental Expenditure.

Bernard Allen

Ceist:

372 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the way in which spending in the first nine months of 2002 compares to the budgeted profile for spending for each major programme of his Department's spending; and his forecast for year-end overruns. [17162/02]

The following table shows the profile and actual expenditure for the period 1 January to 30 September for the major estimate headings. Total expenditure in the period was €1,031 million as against a profile estimate of €973 million.

As can be seen from the table, higher than profiled expenditure has occurred in a number of areas during the period under review. However, the expectation is that this will even out as the year proceeds and an overrun on the overall gross expenditure for 2002 is not anticipated.

With effect from 18 June 2002, responsibility for certain functions was transferred to the Department of Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs and to the Department of Arts, Sport and Tourism. Expenditure prior to that date on transferred functions is the responsibility of the Department of Agriculture and Food and is included in the table. The comparative expenditure profile table for the same period has been adjusted to take account of this.
