Vol. 554 No. 5

Written Answers. - Rural Environment Protection Scheme.

Paul Connaughton

Ceist:

376 Mr. Connaughton asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food when an appeal will be dealt with against a 50% reduction in REP scheme payment for 2001 in the name of a person (details supplied) in County Galway; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17215/02]

A 50% penalty was applied to the REPS payment of the participant named because the area being farmed was incorrectly declared. The correct declaration of all lands farmed is a requirement of the scheme. An appeal has been lodged with my Department's REPS appeals committee and this has been investigated and a report prepared for the committee. The matter will be presented to the appeals committee for final decision at the earliest possible date and the person named will be notified of the outcome directly in writing.
