Vol. 554 No. 5

Written Answers. - EU Funding.

Seymour Crawford

Ceist:

434 Mr. Crawford asked the Minister for Finance the total funding available through the INTERREG Programme between September 2002 and 2006; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [16864/02]

It is assumed that the Deputy is referring to the Ireland-Northern Ireland INTERREG Programme for the period 2000 to 2006.

The European Regional Development Fund, European Regional Development Fund, allocation for the Ireland-Northern Ireland INTERREG IIIA Programme is €53.6 million. The value of the programme for projects in this jurisdiction, including matching funding, should be in the region of €71.5 million. The Northern Ireland European Regional Development Fund allocation is €80.8 million to €107.7 million, including matching funding. The three priorities targeted for support under the programme are: (i) integrated local development strategies; (ii) physical infrastructure and the environment; and (iii) civic and community networking.

The programme is being managed by the Special EU Programmes Body and will be implemented by a range of Departments, intermediary funding bodies and locally based agencies. The INTERREG partnerships promoted by the three Border corridor groups have been established and are currently developing their internal systems for programme delivery. It is expected that the Programme will be open for applications in the near future.

Ireland is also participating in other INTERREG Programmes under the 2000-06 round and the following is the European Regional Development Fund allocation in Ireland in respect of each of these programmes:
